The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has awarded the Hyundai Genesis sedan (models built after January, 2010) and the Mercedes Benz E class sedan (built after March 2010) a “Top Safety Pick” award for 2010. The cars join other Top Safety Pick award winners in the Large Car segment, including the Buick LaCrosse, the Ford Taurus, the Lincoln MKS and the Volvo S80

REPORTS OUT of the US this week have lead to speculation that Nissan's luxury arm Infiniti is investigating the idea of a compact SUV to take on the likes of the BMW X1 and Audi's upcoming Q3. Infiniti itself has not offered any confirmation of such a plan, however the recent platform and engine deal between Renault-Nissan and Daimler has fueled reports that Infiniti will look to build a compact SUV on Mercedes-Benz architecture.

A recovery in demand continued over last month for the third German luxury carmaker, Mercedes-Benz as sales of cars rose 15.3 per cent to 93,100 units in April. “That is a strong start for the second quarter, in which we want to increase our sales considerably once again,” said Joachim Schmidt, head of sales and marketing for Daimler’s passenger car business.

MERCEDES-BENZ has revealed details of two new V6 and V8 petrol engines, both utilising direct injection and multi-spark ignition technology to bring greater torque and fuel economy than their predecessors. Both engines feature piezo-electric injectors similar to those of most new diesel engines, the resultant cooling effect allowing for higher compression and boost for the twin-turbo V8 engine.
